1 Corinthians 3:11
"For no one can lay a foundation other than which is laid, which is Jesus Christ."

Discussion

  1. Why is Jesus Christ the foundation? Are there verses that talk about Jesus as the foundation, or the important part of the building? 
  2. What does it mean to lay the foundation of gold, silver, and precious stones? What does it mean to lay a foundation of wood, hay, and straw? 
  3. What "Day" is verse 13 talking about? Give some verses to support your answers. 
  4. According to verses 12-15, how will we know what foundation we have built upon? What type of works will be burned up? What type of works will survive?

1 Corinthians 2:9
"But, as it is written, what no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him."

  1. According to verse 6, the wisdom that Paul gives is not of this age or from the rulers of this age. What would the world's wisdom look like? Give Scripture. 
  2. According to verse 7, the wisdom that Paul gives is a hidden, secret wisdom that God has decreed. What is the wisdom that he decreed before the ages? 
  3. What else has God decreed before the foundation of hte world? 
  4. What as God prepared for those who love Him?
    - How do we know this is true?
    - How do we understand the Bible?
    - So why can't an unbeliever (natural person) understand the Bible?
  5. What does it mean to have the mind of Christ?


1 Corinthians 1:31
"Therefore, as it is written, 'Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord'"

  1. What is meant that the "word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing?" - 1 Cor. 1:18 
  2. In reference to the Gospel, what is meant by God making "foolish the wisdom of the world?" - 1 Cor. 1:20 
  3. What implications does 1 Cor. 1:25 hold? What does it tell us about God? Are there any verses that say something similar? If so, what are they?
  4. Why would God do what He does in 1 Cor. 1:27-28?
  5. Why does God not want us to boast?
  6. So who should we boast in?
  7. Why should we boast in the Lord?


 

1 Corinthians 1:10
"I appeal to you brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment."

  1. What are some verses that tell us ot be unified? What are some verses that tell us about division among believers?
  2. Does the Bible tell us how to handle people who cause division in the church? What are some verses that support your answer?
  3. Why do people cause divisions in the church? Give some personal examples.

1 Corinthians 14:20
"Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature."

  1. What is the difference between being child-like and being mature in your thinking? (Give scripture to answer)
  2. What does Paul mean when he says to be "infants in evil?" Give some biblical examples, with Scripture references, of people who were "infants in evil," and some who were not.
  3. How can we be "infants in evil" and mature in our thinking every day?
  4. Why is it so hard for us to be infants in evil and mature in thinking?
